The Yale University Press has for some time been putting out books which must distress the competition. Organization won't do it—look at the Twayne series. Infusions of money and determination seem ineffective, as with the Southern Illinois Press. As for duty, piety, and the mere habit of production, all those dissertations elsewhere announced with such becoming pride expire quietly enough within a few months. All that's left is the Judas kiss of a review two or three years later and another minor reputation to blossom and molder.
