They have drunk Vouvray from a tumbler, They have eaten fruit from a bowl—the fig-skins darkeningIn candlelight, cantaloupe rinds stained with raspberry Sweetening degree by degree toward the rich half-life Of compost. They made love slowly while freight trains Stalled beyond the alley. There was rain, then moonlightBled through the clouds' exhaustion. They slept and woke And slept again. They lay dreaming, joined at the solar plexus, Barges dense with pig iron stoking and shifting Against the Delaware's face.
