Money Getting, Part XV

A Verse Digest of P. T. Barnum’s The Art of Money Getting (1880)

be systematic in business

a person does business by rule
a time and place for everything

work promptly
accomplish twice as much
with half the trouble

doing one thing at a time
meeting appointments with punctuality
you find leisure for recreation

the man who half does one thing
then turns to something else
will never know when his work is done
for it never will be done

there is a limit to these rules

try to preserve the happy medium
there is such a thing as being too systematic

there are men and women
who put away things so carefully
that they can never find them again

all theory and no result
carrying system entirely too far
