Benjamin Percy’s Whiting Award

The great young short story writer Benjamin Percy was announced this week as one of this year’s winners of the Whiting Award. Ben’s collection Refresh, Refresh was easily one of the best of the past couple years [in the interest of full disclosure, I edited one of the stories, called “The Killing,” when it appeared in the journal Salt Hill]. Before he wins any more awards– he’s already got the Paris Review’s Plimpton Prize and been in Best American Short Stories— you should read him. So you don’t get caught holding the bag, like when they give the Nobel to French novelists you’ve never heard of.
