Short Takes

Thank you, John, for reviewing the Review‘s response to September 11th. The news has an overwhelming number of stories recounting the attack; here are ten books about it, though thousands must have been written.

I feel like 9/11 has been covered in every format, from Noam Chomsky’s political analysis to a new comic book brought to you by the creator of Richie Rich.

In other news, the King of Tonga, T??ufa????hau Tupou IV has died at 88.

Penguin claims to be reviving the serial novel. James Ellroy was interviewed by The Seattle Times about his personal investment in “The Black Dahlia.” James Frey is still making the news because readers are demanding refunds for his “memoir.”

On a lighter note, Eats, Shoots & Leaves has been condensed for a younger audience. Roald Dahl Day is coming up on September 13th. And Shelley Jackson, author of Half Life, has written a novel on two thousand people, one word at a time.
